When a roof leaks for a long enough time, it can cause structural damage, such as rusting the metal deck. This particular roof in Norfolk had three roofs on it before we tore them off. First there was an EPDM rubber roof, which was on top of a torch down modified roof, which was on a built up roof. Once all three roofs were torn off, we could see considerable damage to the metal deck. The old, rusted deck was cut out and replaced with new deck. What looks like red paint is actually metal primer to insure the old metal deck does not cause the new deck to rust.
